In CNC machining workshops, welding fume has long been a major headache for manufacturers. It not only endangers workers’ health and cuts production efficiency, but also puts enterprises under huge pressure of environmental compliance. Recently, a CNC machining workshop partnered with Moland to complete Welding fume and dust control system upgrade. This project has now become a benchmark reference for environmental renovation of industrial workshops, so let’s take a closer look at the full details of this upgrade.

I.On-site of Welding Fume and Dust Control Pain Points

Welding Fume and Dust Control

The core treatment area of this CNC machining workshop covers 1440㎡, with a length of 60m and a width of 24m. Moreover, welding processes are densely arranged across the workshop, which generates continuous fume that spreads rapidly throughout the space. Unfortunately, traditional ventilation solutions fail to deliver full fume capture in such a large-area workshop with fast fume dispersion.

Additionally, prolonged exposure to dusty and fume-laden air poses severe occupational health risks to on-site workers. Inhalation of excessive welding fume may trigger respiratory diseases and other health issues, which greatly affects employees’ quality of life and work motivation.

II.Welding Fume and Dust Control System Deployment

Welding Fume Extraction System

To address the workshop’s core pain points—open space, fast fume diffusion and large treatment area—Moland customized a tailored blow- suction dust and fume extraction solution.

Unlike conventional single suction dust removal modes, the Moland blow-suction fume extraction system adopts an innovative dual-side layout + air circulation design. Specifically, for pipeline arrangement, we neatly install air suction ducts on one side of the workshop and arrange air blowing ducts correspondingly on the opposite side, forming a symmetrical airflow guiding structure.

This layout fully covers the entire 60-meter treatment zone with zero blind spots for fume capture, leaving nowhere for welding fume to escape. Meanwhile, two sets of 30,000 m³/h dust removal main units operate synchronously: the blowing ducts deliver stable airflow continuously, while the suction ducts create uniform negative pressure. This setup builds a dense circulating air layer above the workshop overhead crane, acting like an invisible protective shield.

Welding fume rises with thermal airflow; once it touches the circulating air layer above the crane, it instantly gets guided into the suction ducts and then quickly conveys to the dust removal main units. The whole system follows the core principle of source capture, high-efficiency purification and indoor air circulation. It requires no outdoor exhaust, which eliminates environmental compliance risks from external emission. Furthermore, it recycles purified clean air indoors to reduce workshop ventilation energy consumption, achieving dual benefits of environmental protection and energy saving and fully aligning with the trend of industrial green transformation.transformation.

III.Treatment Results of Welding Fume and Dust Control System

Welding Fume and Dust Control

After installation and commissioning, the workshop achieved immediate and outstanding dust and fume control results. First of all, benefiting from the full coverage of the circulating air layer, almost no visible floating fume remains in the workshop. Visibility in working areas has greatly improved, which puts an end to the hazy working environment for welders.

This upgraded environment not only optimizes working conditions but also effectively reduces the welding rework rate and boosts overall production efficiency. Specifically, clear visibility enables workers to perform welding operations more accurately, minimizing errors caused by poor sight and streamlining the entire production process.

When welding fume enters the dust collectors, Moland’s high-efficiency purification technology processes it to achieve a filtration precision of up to 0.3μm. The purified air meets national emission standards and then recirculates back into the workshop. This design not only saves fresh air energy consumption but also avoids secondary pollution, perfectly fitting the demand for enclosed workshop operations.

In addition, the two 30,000 m³/h systems precisely match the 1440㎡ workshop demand. They run stably with low noise and do not disrupt daily production. The system also supports fully automatic operation and automatic ash cleaning, featuring few fault points and easy maintenance—this greatly cuts workshop operation & maintenance costs and manual workload.
